Abstract

During 2015-2016 the Icelandic Directorate of Education is developing series of short assessment tools intended to enable teachers to monitor students’ progress in reading. These tools include a reading fluency test, sight word reading, non-word reading and rapid naming test, and reading comprehension test that will be administered annually, as well as a screening test for phonological and language development to be held at beginning of 1st grade The presentation will focus on four of the assessment tool that are in the standardization process. The reading fluency test has 10 grade level versions, the sight word reading has four levels, the non-word reading has three levels and rapid naming has two levels.

Objectives
The objectives of the presentation is to report on the scaling and psychometric properties of a collection of the short classroom reading assessments being developed for 1st through 10th grade in Iceland.

Design/Methodology
The data used will consist of the standardization administration collected over the last two weeks of January this year for about 8000 students in 35 randomly selected schools and also data on reading performance on the same students from the reading subtest from the Icelandic National Examinations held annually in 4th, 7th, and 10th grade in Iceland. The data collected on the reading fluency test covers all ten grade level tests version as well as a subsample of students additionally reading an adjacent grade test. The sight word reading and the non-word reading tests include overlapping items, with data collected at all grade levels.

Results
The data are being collected. The data analysis is planned for February.
