Abstract

In Brazil there are few scales to measure perceived social support, and all the instruments available in Brazilian Portuguese measure only the factor received social support. Considering this gap, this study aimed to adapt and validate the 2-Way Social Support Scale (2-way SSS) to Brazil, to evaluate its dimensionality, determine its psychometric properties and verify validity evidences. The scale was translated and adapted following the guidelines of the Test International Commission with the objective to produce an instrument with comparable psychometric qualities as the original. The sample included 317 people, 85.5% women. Ages ranged from 18 to 68 years. They answered the following instruments: 2-Way Social Support Scale, Perceived Social Support Scale and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales. The scale presented psychometric characteristics, internal consistency and convergent and predictive validity appropriate. The instrument is ready for use with the Brazilian population.
