Abstract
Introduction
It is a challenging job that measuring second language performance of children who just during in kindergarten, since they own very limited language skill on oral, almost none of reading and writing ability. Performance assessment is a great approach to cope above challenges, and ware employed in research and practice. However, a lot of investigators are participated for operating a large scale assessment. More error of operation difference will be added to investigation results because of more investigators.
Objectives
In current study, tablet PC and one assessment software developed by ourselves is used to measure the Chinese proficiency of monitory nationalities children with 4-6 age, who were taken care in the kindergarten. The new method based on the performance assessment theory, and regulated process, duration and pronunciation of assessment. The error of investigator was decreased in large degree for valid test results.
Design
We implied the assessment in Xinjiang of China to test 3,896 children by 28 investigators in five days.
Results
Results shown a good reliability and validity of measurement, and error of investigator is significant decrease to previous data. Investigators and tested subjects offer positive comments to the assessment technology. New approach also much reduced the cost of time and finance than before.
Conclusion
New method combined Tablet PC and performance assessment, circumvented the difficulties faced testing second language performance of preschool children.
